Life with Braces | Eating with Braces

You will need to take special care to avoid any foods that could damage your new appliances.  Here is a list of do’s and don’ts:

Foods you CAN eat with braces:
 

  • Grains - cooked pasta, cooked rice, soft tortillas, pancakes
  • Dairy - yogurt, soft cheese, milk-based drinks
  • Meats/poultry/fish - soft cooked chicken, meatballs, lunch meats, tuna, salmon
  • Vegetables - mashed potatoes, cooked veggies are fine
  • Fruits - bananas, sliced apples or pears
  • Treats - milkshakes, soft ice cream without nuts, Jell-O, soft cake 
  • *Sugarless chewing gum is fine!
      

Foods to avoid with braces:
 

  • Chewy foods - gummies, licorice
  • Crunchy foods - popcorn, ice, hard candies, hard nuts
  • Sticky foods - caramel candies, suckers
  • Foods that require biting into - corn on the cob, apples, raw carrots
