Brushing & Flossing with Braces
At Hucal & Edwards Orthodontics, we take oral hygiene very seriously and we expect our patients to maintain excellent oral hygiene throughout their treatment. It is important to continue seeing your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings during your orthodontic treatment.
Our orthodontic assistants provide thorough instructions on how to properly brush and floss your teeth and maintain healthy gums while in braces.
When you have braces, it's very important to brush and floss after every meal in order to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout your treatment. If you need help choosing the right toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss, please ask us and we can help you choose the right products for your teeth and your appliance.
We provide our patients an electric toothbrush and proper oral hygiene instructions at the start of treatment. We also carefully monitor your oral hygiene during treatment. Patients are to continue to see their family dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.
If you do not maintain adequate oral hygiene levels, negative consequences can occur such as the development of gingivitis (gum inflammation) and permanent white spot lesions (early cavities).
